Datti Kapella
Amandatti Rosa Kapella was born in March of 2000. She emerged from her shell to find others like her existing in the world. The internet was the catalyst to her existence, allowing her to explore her inner reality with others in virtual space. Not long after establishing a website, I became aware of an organization called the Society for the Second Self,
or Tri-Ess. I wrote to them in hopes of finding a chapter in the Denver area from which I could draw strength and courage. The return emails pointed me to Sue Anne Michaels and Diane Lambert. Those two were establishing a new chapter and extended to me a hand of friendship and sisterhood.
Sue Anne quickly became a close friend who helped me understand myself and gather the courage to share my gender gift with my wife. That next step was in August of 2000. With my wife’s help, I was able to allow my inner feelings to emerge. With her guidance and understanding, I was able to glimpse the feminine nature of my soul.
I was become something other than a duality of being – rather a whole person whose id spanned the gender spectrum. In this vein, cross-dressing is a manifestation of my transgendered nature. I had always felt that I encompassed more than what was socially accepted as male…but I was afraid of what that might imply. With the help of my many sisters in Tri-Ess and the loving and caring of wife, I’ve been able to safely sojourn this self-discovery upon which I’ve embarked.
I am comfortable with who and what I am. The determination of what I will become is yet another matter. That is a destination I do not know. But humanistically, I can only believe it is to become a “whole” person – unbounded by cultural and social limitations.
I hope all of us find that place in ourselves that is the embodiment of our souls. The search for that truth is, after all, the gift of life and the attainment of that truth, the ultimate destination.
